Reductionism of food - Part 1 of

Reductionism of food

An "ism" means it's not a scientific subject, but an ideology, a system of ideas or assumptions.

Over recent years scientists have told us that the human body doesn't know the difference between between separated or chemical-imitation nutrients and natural, whole-food nutrients.
Numerous studies {and decades of seeing the effects on countless people, which as we all know does not count in the "scientific method " rules} are proving this concept are flawed and wrong.  Because your body does know the difference!

Most scientists work by what is called reductionism!
They assume that by breaking down something from Nature into smaller and smaller parts - cutting it into tiny pieces - so they can study these parts in more detail...  Modern life has benefited from the technological advances that we now enjoy.   This is one of the great strengths of modern science.

However there is a serious weakness in these assumptions that have became more apparent over the recent years; especially as they are applied living humans and real foods...  The one big fault is that scientists can't put the parts back together and they have not grasped the intricate interweaving of the whole or the Big Picture!
An entire organization has a certain harmony and synchronicity of the whole system which does not exist in the different parts!

In the book; " In Defense of Food "  Michael  Pollan, refers to the reductionistic, as a parts-is-parts approach to nutrition; which has been used by scientists for decades as  " nutritionism " {which is another (ism) term coined by an Australian sociologist}.    Yet don't confuse " nutritionism  " with  " nutrition "....
This idea of "nutritionism "  has forced upon the public to convince us that the most important thing is not the actual food but  the " nutrient"...    This is the scientific view that is necessary to fulfill a myopic view or notion of health.

Because in the nutshell  -  we have been led to believe that foods are just basically the sum of it's nutrient parts...  Yet this is wrong because there is much more to the whole story,  like the interaction of all the parts -  nutrients or not, either known or unknown - is absolutely essential!
All the naturally - occurring ingredients in Whole  Foods and their interactions make up a  matrix which influences all the biological processes that need to take place in our bodies to ensure our health!  The interaction is part of a synergy in which all the players are needed to complete the harmonious conclusion!

The main key to the subject of food synergy, is understanding the difference between real food and non foods or drugs...  Real foods, come from only living organic sources, like plants and animals which are extremely complex... There are many thousands of substances in the food matrix that must be considered necessary to provide biological activity! Because all the substances in the actual food matrix must be considered as having all the biological activity that benefits our health!

Because even though people may take drug isolated substances... While many supplements are derived from foods -  once they have been removed they never provide the nutrients of real foods...  Once part of any food is extracted or imitated; it's no longer natural and really beneficial to the human body!

We will talk about  Supplements: Is there a Difference?
